Germal Singh Khera Appointed as CEO of Ascend Airways Malaysia: A New Chapter in Malaysia’s Aviation Landscape

In a significant milestone for Malaysia’s aviation industry, Ascend Airways Malaysia has officially announced the appointment of Captain Germal Singh Khera as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The announcement comes as the airline successfully secured both its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP) key regulatory approvals that mark the airline’s readiness to commence operations.

Captain Germal, a seasoned aviation leader with more than two decades of experience in commercial and charter operations, now takes the helm of one of Malaysia’s newest aviation ventures. His leadership is expected to steer Ascend Airways into a strategic position as a competitive ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) and charter service provider, catering to both domestic and regional markets.

“Our focus is to redefine efficiency and reliability in air operations, supporting airlines, logistics, and private sectors across ASEAN,” said Captain Germal during the press briefing. “With Malaysia’s strategic location and robust aviation ecosystem, we aim to make Ascend Airways a regional player with global standards.”

The airline’s entry into the market is timely. As ASEAN countries rebound from post-pandemic recovery, the aviation sector has seen renewed demand for charter, ACMI leasing, and cargo support operations. Ascend Airways’ business model complements Malaysia’s goal of becoming an aviation hub in Southeast Asia, aligning with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani economic framework, which emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and high-value industries.

Industry observers view Germal Singh’s appointment as a reflection of confidence in Malaysian leadership within the aviation space. His expertise, combined with Malaysia’s supportive regulatory landscape, could position Ascend Airways as a key contributor to the nation’s growing aerospace and aviation ecosystem.

As the airline prepares to begin operations in late 2025, all eyes are on Ascend Airways Malaysia to see how this new leadership direction will translate into operational excellence and regional growth.
