Haze-induced low visibility has caused flight operation disruptions at Senai International Airport on Thursday, October 8th. Five flights have been affected as much of Southeast Asia continues to suffer from poor air quality. Anthony Loke, Malaysia’s Transport Minister, confirmed that many planes were diverted to other airports such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Senai flight disruptions As per Bernama, the disruption impacted both arriving and departing services once visibility dropped to a point where aircraft could not safely land. Loke, who traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Johor that morning, was one of those affected. He experienced a delay of about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
The Minister stated that his plane stayed at his departure airport because it could not safely land at Senai due to current conditions. Regional haze conditions According to the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC), parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Kalimantan, Sarawak and Sumatra were experiencing smoke haze on October 10th.
Satellite observations showed hotspots and smoke plumes in parts of Indonesia, however, cloud cover restricted observations in some areas.
On Saturday, October 10th, Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported unhealthy air quality with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index ranging from 118 to 168 at 7 PM. Aviation safety measures Low visibility can prevent aircraft from meeting minimum conditions needed to land.
When weather conditions fall below applicable operational limits, pilots and air traffic controllers must adhere to established procedures. Depending on the situation, flights may be delayed or diverted to alternative airports.
Air quality readings and aviation visibility measurements have separate functions. Unhealthy air quality does not automatically require aircraft operations to cease. Latest operational status No additional flight disruptions due to haze on October 10th-11th have been independently confirmed by time of this report.
