An Exclusive Conversation with Amira Zul, Malaysia’s Promising Young Pilot
The future of aviation relies on passionate, skilled, and disciplined young aviators who are prepared to take the controls. MyAviation Magazine recently spoke with Amira Zul, a 22-year-old holder of a commercial pilot license from Malaysia, who represents the next generation of aviation professionals.
With determination, humility, and a deep love for flight, Amira is demonstrating that age is not a barrier to achieving excellence in the skies.
MyAviation Magazine: Amira, thank you for joining us. How did your aviation journey begin?
Amira Zul: Thank you for having me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by aircraft. My dad used to take me to Subang Airport to watch planes take off. I remember thinking, One day, I’ll be the one in that cockpit. That dream stuck with me, and after finishing school, I enrolled in a flying academy.
MyAviation Magazine: Was becoming a pilot always your goal?
Amira Zul: Honestly, yes but I knew it wouldn’t be easy. There’s the technical side, the cost, the pressure… but I’ve always believed that if you work hard and stay focused, you can achieve anything. I also want to inspire more young women in Malaysia to enter aviation.
MyAviation Magazine: What has been the most challenging part of your pilot training?
Amira Zul: The mental discipline. Flying isn’t just about handling the aircraft, it’s about staying calm under pressure, making quick decisions, and always putting safety first. There were days I doubted myself, but my instructors and fellow cadets kept me motivated.
MyAviation Magazine: How do you feel knowing you’re part of the next generation of aviators?
Amira Zul: It’s exciting and a huge responsibility. Aviation is evolving fast with new technology and higher safety expectations. Young aviators like me have to be ready to adapt, keep learning, and uphold the highest standards. We’re not just flying, we’re shaping the future of this industry.
MyAviation Magazine: What advice would you give to other young people dreaming of an aviation career?
Amira Zul: Believe in yourself, stay disciplined, and never underestimate the importance of hard work. It’s not always glamorous , there’s a lot of studying, preparation, and sacrifice. But seeing the world from the cockpit? There’s nothing like it.
MyAviation Magazine: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Amira Zul: Hopefully in the right seat of a Boeing 737, building hours, gaining experience, and mentoring younger cadets. Long-term, I’d love to become a training captain and help develop Malaysia’s aviation talent.
MyAviation Magazine: Amira, thank you and congratulations on representing the spirit of Malaysia’s next generation of aviators.
Amira Zul: Thank you! It’s an honor to be part of this journey, and it’s just the beginning.
